. . . a trade-off between motor movement and sanity, and most PD patients and their spouses/caregivers eventually opt for decreased motor movement in order to benefit from increased sanity. That is the only way to make life tolerable. My husband was aggressively treated, drug-wise, to address his motor movement problems but the ensuing psychological/psychiatric problems were horrendous. My earlier emails to you described the "toxic salad" of medications which he ingested daily. Thus, he was over-medicated for motor movement problems & the mental health side effects of that regime were ignored.
Levodopa, in whatever form, eventually causes psychosis, paranoia, delusions & dementia. PD itself causes the same symptoms.
Of course these are her opinions, and may not represent the experiences of other people.
